New year, new Seabird, and our community's top sources

2025 wrapped up for us with some exciting developments at Seabird. In November we introduced Tidings, our weekly newsletter curating the most interesting stories shared each week on Seabird. (Subscribe to receive it in your inbox every Friday!). We also launched Seabird for web, one of our most-requested features. It's officially still in beta, but you can check it out now directly in your browser, no app download required. (Don't have an account yet? Create one with code "WaitIsOver".) We'll have more news for the year ahead very soon.

One of our goals as a platform is to highlight stories that get lost in the infinite scroll of social media: in-depth reporting, thoughtful essays, off-beat topics, and posts from lesser-known websites. In 2025, our users shared links to more than 650 unique domains and publications. Of these, 423 were linked just a single time. Some of the web's best writing appears in this long-tail of the distribution and we're gratified that our community is helping to promote it.

Of course, stories from mainstream and popular news sites are frequently shared on Seabird as well, with The New York Times, The Atlantic, and The Guardian taking the top three slots for most popular sources among our users last year. The top ten are charted below:

Thank you to everyone who contributed to Seabird over the past year! With so many other networks penalizing links or prioritizing short-form video and AI-generated content, it's a privilege to share this community with people dedicated to sharing genuinely worthwhile writing from all over the web. We look forward to sharing even more with you in 2026.
